Asia Argento, born in Rome to a family that includes actors and directors, was a professional in both fields. Sogni e bisogni, directed by Sergio Citti and starring Asia Argento, at nine, was her very first film. She played the lead in the film as Cristina Comencini in her first film Zoo in 1988. Michele Soavi directed The Church 1989. Red Wood Pigeon, directed also by Moretti in 1989, played her part in the role of Nanni Moretti's young daughter. Close Friends (1992), written and directed by Michele Placido was the film which launched Asia's career career. She was able move from roles of a young girl to mature and complex ones. The film received an enthusiastic reception during the Cannes International Film Festival. Trauma (1996) and The Stendhal Syndrome are other films she has made with her famous father. The Phantom of the Opera The film, made by her father who passed away and is the final of three movies she's been involved in. The other two were Trauma as well as The Stendhal Syndrome. Giuseppe Piccioni employed her deeply absorbed and intense manner of acting in the film Condannato a Nozze. Patrice Chereau was the director. Queen Margot as well. She played a role as an physically handicapped girl in the movie. In 1995 she worked with Michel Piccoli in Peter Del Monte's Traveling Companion , which again brought her a David di Donatello and a Grolla of Oro. Asia started directing short films in the year 1994. The two she directed were Prospettive in 1996. She directed a documentary about her father, and Abel/Asia from 1998. Both focused on the cult film director Abel Ferrara. This latter was awarded at the Rome Film Festival. Asia was first introduced as a feature director in Scarlet Diva (2000). In this film, she was also the lead actress and wrote the screenplay. The film premiered in May 2000 in Italy and the rest of the world. It won an award during the Williamsburg Film Festival in Brooklyn, New York. Anna Lou, her first child, was born to her in the year 2001. She had directed several music videos. In 2002, Asia starred as a character in The Red Siren with Jean Marc Barr, and Rob Cohen's Action-Thrille, directed by Vin Diesel. Asia's short stories have also appeared in high-profile publications.
